Sand blasting is a process of surface preparation in which loose particles are removed from any surface. These loose particles can be scale, corrosion, paint, or any burrs, etc. Surface preparation is done to apply paint and coating on the component, thereby increasing its life. Sand blasting is quite useful for any surface because if the loose particles aren't removed, then the adhesion of any paint or coating will be very poor on that component's surface.
Main function of sand blasting machine
In a pneumatic sand blasting machine, compressed air is used for the blasting process. In this type of machine, a compressor of the required CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) is used for proper working. With the high pressure, the abrasive strikes on the component surface and the blasting process is completed.
The basic principle of a sand blasting machine is to throw a high-velocity stream of air and sand on the required surface. Blasting simply means throwing media on the required surface at high velocity.
Types of Air Operated / Pneumatic Sand Blasting Machine
Sand blasting can be done in open air and also in a closed system or we can say cabinet.
In open-air blasting, we perform the blasting process in an open environment. The operator has to wear a safety suit, helmet, etc. The closed blasting machine is also called a sand blasting cabinet. It protects the environment from dust and the operator’s health. The closed sand blasting cabinet also consists of an abrasive recycling system, allowing the reuse of the abrasive, which makes the process more economical. The cabinet also consists of a dust collection system. The operator can do sand blasting from outside of the cabinet.
The Portable Sand Blasting Machine is used as a finishing process that has been successfully utilized on glass, metal, plastic, ceramics, and stone. The portable sandblasting machines are safe, high-productivity systems designed for use with a wide range of abrasive media. The functions of a portable sand blasting machine include descaling, peening, deburring, deflashing, polishing, cleaning, and stress relieving. Its main applications are in the industries of ships, infrastructure, and other vehicles.
